The authors define and study semi-weak \(n\)-hyponormality and introduce the positive determinant partition to detect semi-weak \(n\)-hyponormality of a weighted shift. They also discuss several examples related to semi-weak \(n\)-hyponormal weighted shifts. In particular, they show that there exists a semi-cubically hyponormal weighted shift which is not semi-weakly \(n\)-hyponormal for all \(n\geq 4\).
