The authors consider the KdV-Burgers equation with an additional damping term due to local dissipation. The damping coefficient is a bounded function of the spatial coordinate and it may be sign-indefinite. The authors start with the linear version of the problem and prove global well-posedness and exponential decay of solutions of the linear problem. Then, the authors include the nonlinear (quadratic) term into consideration and upgrade their results on the well-posedness and exponential decay of solutions for the nonlinear problem. They also extend the results from the space of squared integrable functions to the Sobolev space of functions with squared integrable derivatives up to the third order. The methods of analysis are relatively standard and rely on the a priori energy estimates, Gronwall's inequalities, Galerkin's approximation arguments, and Duhamel's integral formulation.
