Edge-to-edge tilings of the plane by two or more (convex) regular polygons such that the same polygons in the same order surround each vertex are called semi-regular, uniform or Archimedean tilings. Furthermore, it is well known that there exist precisely eleven tilings of this type (that correspond to the distinct types of vertices which may be obtained). The authors distinguish between Archimedean edge-colored tiling and uniform edge-colored tiling. The problem of classifying the uniform edge-\(c\)-coloring (\(c\leq6\)) of the Archimedean tilings of the Euclidean plane is proposed by \textit{B. Grünbaum} and \textit{G. C. Shephard} [Tilings and patterns. New York: W. H. Freeman and Company (1987; Zbl 0601.05001)]. Concerning to edge-\(c\)-colored tilings the authors prove that there are only finitely many uniform edge-\(c\)-colorings (109, more precisely), but there are infinitely many distinct Archimedean edge-\(c\)-colorings of the uniform tilings. They also present complete figures of the 109 uniform edge colorings.
