This paper is devoted to the solvability of the boundary value problem \[ -y''=q(t)f(t,y(t)),\;\;t\in(0,1), \] \[ y(0)=H(\phi(y)),\;\;y(1)=0, \] singular at \(y=0.\) It is assumed that \(q\in C(0,1),\) \(q>0\) on \((0,1)\) and \(\int_0^1(1-t)q(t)dt<\infty,\) \(f:[0,1]\times(0,\infty)\to(0,\infty)\) is continuous and there are functions \(\psi_1\in C[0,1],\) \(g\in C(0,\infty)\) and \(h\in C[0,\infty)\) such that \(\psi_1(t)>0\) on \((0,1)\) and \(f(t,y)\geq\psi_1(t)\) on \((0,1)\times(0,1],\) \(g>0\) is nonincreasing on \((0,\infty)\), \(h\geq0\) on \([0,\infty),\) \(h/g\) is nondecreasing on \((0,\infty)\) and \(f(t,y)\leq g(y)+h(y)\) on \([0,1]\times(0,\infty),\) the function \(H:\mathbb R\to \mathbb R\) is continuous with \(H:(0,\infty)\to(0,\infty),\) \(\phi(y)=\phi_1(y)+\phi_2(y)\) where \(\phi_1,\phi_2: C[0,1]\to \mathbb R\) are the linear functionals \[ \phi_1(y):=\int_0^1y(t)d\alpha_1(t),\quad\phi_2(y):=\int_0^1y(t)d\alpha_2(t), \] and \(\alpha_1,\alpha_2:[0,1]\to \mathbb R\) are suitable functions in \(BV[0,1].\) Under these assumptions the author establishes that the considered problem has at least one positive solution in \(C[0,1].\) Another existence result guarantees at least two positive solutions under the additional assumption that there exists \(a\in(0,1/2)\) such that \(\lim_{y\to+\infty}\frac{f(t,y)}{y}=+\infty\) uniformly on \([a,1-a].\) A third result guarantees at least one positive solution in the case that \(f\) changes its sign.
