Let \(dV_{\alpha}\) denote the standard radially weighted Lebesgue measure on the unit ball in \(\mathbb{C}^n\). The usual weighted Bergman space \(L^2_a=L^2_{a}(\mathbb{B}^n,dV_{\alpha})\) consists of holomorphic functions that belong to \(L^2=L^2(\mathbb{B}^n,dV_{\alpha})\). Consider the space \(\overline{L^2_a}\) of all complex conjugates of elements in \(L^2_a\). For any function \(\varphi\in L^2\), the little Hankel operator \(h_{\varphi}:L_a^2\rightarrow\overline{L^2_a}\) is defined by \(h_{\varphi}(f)=\overline{P_{\alpha}}(f\varphi)\) for \(f\in L^2_a\). Here, \(\overline{P_{\alpha}}\) is the orthogonal projection from \(L^2\) onto \(\overline{L^2_a}\). As is well known, \(h_{\varphi}\) is an integral operator. Several researchers have obtained characterizations of boundedness and compactness of little Hankel operators. In the paper under review, the author provides an estimate for the essential norm of \(h_{\overline{\varphi}}\) whenever \(\varphi\in L^2\) such that \(h_{\overline{\varphi}}\) is bounded. More specifically, it is shown that there exists a positive constant \(C\) such that \[ C^{-1}\limsup_{|z|\uparrow 1}|V\varphi(z)|\leq\|h_{\overline{\varphi}}\|_{e}\leq C\limsup_{|z|\uparrow 1}|V\varphi(z)|. \] The operator \(V\) is an integral transform that was introduced by \textit{K. Zhu} in [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 324, No. 2, 707--730 (1991; Zbl 0734.47016)] for the unweighted case over bounded symmetric domains. The lower estimate is obtained by the standard technique of normalized Bergman kernels. On the other hand, for the upper estimate, the author expresses the adjoint operator \(h^{*}_{\overline{\varphi}}\) as an integral operator with kernel involving \(V\varphi\) and uses the cut-off method together with Schur's theorem.
