The authors study the problem of existence of a center on the center manifold for some subfamilies of the 3-dimsional quadratic system \[ \begin{aligned} &\dot u = v,\\ &\dot v = -u + a_1 u^ 2 + a_2 u v + a_3 u w + a_4 v^ 2 + a_5 v w + a_6 w^ 2,\\ &\dot w = - w + c_1 u^ 2 + c_2 u v + c_3 v^ 2.\end{aligned} \] Finding necessary conditions for existence of such a center involves laborious computations of decompositions of affine varieties, which were performed using calculations over a field of finite characteristic with the computer algebra system singular and then lifting the results to the field of rational numbers. The sufficiency of the obtained conditions is proven using different methods.
