Quite recently in her celebrated paper [Adv. Math. 264, 296--307 (2014; Zbl 1325.14078)], \textit{N. Gupta} constructed a counterexample in positive characteristics to the famous Cancellation Conjecture. This conjecture says that if \(A[T]\simeq k^n\) does it follows that \(A\simeq k^{n-1}\). Note that in zero characteristics this conjecture is still open. The author of the paper under review somehow follows Gupta ideas. He extends a cancellation theorem of \textit{D. Wright} [J. Algebra 52, 94--100 (1978; Zbl 0383.13014)] to the case of affine normal domains. It is shown that if \(A\) is an algebra over a Noetherian normal domain \(R\) containing a field \(k\) and if \(A[T] = R[3]\), then \(A = R[2]\) if and only if \(A[T]\) has a variable of the form \(bT^n - a\) for some \(a, b\in A\) with \(n\geq 2\) and \(ch(k)\) not divides \(n\).
