Let \(f\) be a holomorphic function in a neighborhood of \(D_R\), where \(D_R\) denotes the closed disk of radius \(R>0\) centered at \(0\in\mathbb{C}\). Given \(R>0\), and \(K>0\), the function \(f\) is said to belong to the Bernstein class \(B_{R,K}^1\) if \(\max_{D_R} |f|/\max_{D_{{1\over 2}R}} |f|\leq K\). Let \(N\in\mathbb{N}\), \(R>0\) and \(c>0\) be given and let \(f(z)= \sum^\infty_{i=0} a_iz^i\) be an analytic function in a neighborhood of \(0\in\mathbb{C}\). The function \(f\) is said to belong to the Bernstein class \(B^2_{N,R,c}\) if for any \(j>N\), \(|a_j|R^j\leq c\max_{i= 0,1,\dots, N} |a_i|R^i\). The author shows that the classes \(B^1\) and \(B^2\) essentially coincide in the sense that if \(f\in B_{R,K}^1\) then \(f\in B^2_{N,R,c}\) for \(N\) and \(c\) determined as a function of \(K\), and vice versa. A function \(f\) analytic on \(D_R\) is said to be \(p\)-valent if it attains any value at most \(p\)-times in \(D_R\). A characterization of a \(p\)-valent function in terms of its Taylor coefficients is given, which in the case \(p=1\) reduces to the De Branges theorem. It is shown that algebraic functions belong to the Bernstein class \(B^2_d\), starting with \(d\) equal to the bound on their valency, determined by the Bézout theorem.
