The authors investigate two versions of the Dirichlet-to-Neumann operator (\(A^D\) and \(A\)) on a connected exterior domain \(\Omega\subset \mathbb{R}^d\) with \(d\geq 3\), with Dirichlet or Neumann boundary conditions at infinity. The domain \(\Omega\) is of the form \(\Omega=\mathbb{R}^d\setminus \overline{\Omega}_0\), where \(\Omega_0\) is a bounded open set in \(\mathbb{R}^d\) with Lipschitz boundary \(\Gamma\). Various convergence properties when the domain is truncated are proved. Comparisons of \(A^D\) and \(A\) with the Dirichlet-to-Neumann operator \(A_{\Omega_0}\) on \(\Omega_0\) (\(A_{\Omega_0}\varphi=\partial_{\nu}u\), where \(u\) is the solution of the Dirichlet problem \(\Delta u=0\) weakly on \(\Omega_0\), \(u=\varphi\) on \(\Gamma\)) in the case where \(\Omega_0\) is a ball are finally presented.
