Let \(G\) be a connected reductive algebraic group over a number field \(F\), let \(A_G\) be the connected group of the real points of the greatest \(\mathbb Q\)-split torus in the center \(\mathrm{Res}_{F/\mathbb Q}G\) and let \(\mathbb X_G\) be the locally symmetric space \(\mathbb X_G=A_GG(F)\backslash G(\mathbb A_F)\). Moreover, let \(H\subset G\times G\) be the product of a connected reductive group and a connected unipotent group. Each cusp form \(\varphi\) on the product \(\mathbb X_G\times \mathbb X_G\) determines periods integrals \(P_\chi(\varphi)\) related to a quasicharacter \(\chi\) on \(H\): the relative trace formula is a convenient tool to study these period integrals and the authors aim to state systematically such a formula which gives the equality of a geometrical sum and a spectral sum, issued by the analysis of the left regular representation \(\pi(f)\) of the group \(A_G\setminus G(\mathbb A_F)\) for functions \(f\in{\mathcal C}^{\infty}_c(A_G\backslash G(\mathbb A_F))\) obeying appropriate conditions which avoid analytic difficulties. This relative trace formule includes different already known particular cases, such as in [\textit{J. N. Bernstein} (ed.) et al., Représentations des groups réductifs sur un corps local. Paris: Hermann (1984; Zbl 0544.00007)] or in [\textit{H. Jacquet} and \textit{Y. Ye}, Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 348, No. 3, 913--939 (1996; Zbl 0861.11033)]. Moreover, through its generality and for a general split adjoint semisimple group \(G\), the authors are able to obtain a Weyl-type asymptotic formula for the weighted counting function for the cuspidal automorphic representations of \(G(\mathbb A_{\mathbb Q})\) with the weight \(\int_{\widetilde H}|\varphi(h)|^2dh\) where \(\widetilde H=H(\mathbb Q)\backslash H(\mathbb A_{\mathbb Q})\) is supposed compact: the arguments mimic those in [\textit{E. Lindenstrauss} and \textit{A. Venkatesh}, Geom. Funct. Anal. 17, No. 1, 220--251 (2007; Zbl 1137.22011)].
