Let \(G\) be a connected real reductive group with maximal compact subgroup \(K\) of the same rank as \(G\), and let \(\mathcal M\) be the category of Harish-Chandra modules for \(G\). Three differently defined pairings between two finite length modules in \(\mathcal M\) are investigated: the Euler-Poincaré pairing, the natural pairing between the Dirac indices, and the elliptic pairing. It is proved that the Dirac index pairing coincides with the elliptic pairing. Then other two pairings -- the Euler-Poincaré pairing and the pairing between the Dirac indices -- are considered. It is shown that they both may be computed as the indices of Fredholm pairs of operators, acting on the same spaces. The author conjectures that these two pairings are equal. It is noted in this article that recently Jing-Song Huang and Binyong Sun proved the equality of elliptic and Euler-Poincaré pairings. Also recently Jing-Song Huang proved the equality of Dirac and elliptic pairings.
