In the previous papers (see [\textit{I. Krzyżanowska} and \textit{Z. Szafraniec}, J. Math. Soc. Japan 66, No. 3, 805--818 (2014; Zbl 1329.14107)], [\textit{J. Bobowik} and \textit{Z. Szafraniec}, Manuscr. Math. 151, No. 1--2, 209--221 (2016; Zbl 1348.14007)]), some original methods for counting the signed cusp or swallowtail singularities for polynomial selfmaps of \(\mathbb R^n\), where \(n = 2, 3\), are described. In the paper under review the author studies polynomial mappings \(f : \mathbb R^4 \rightarrow \mathbb R^4\). Let \(\Sigma_2(Df)\) be the set of those critical points of \(f\), where the Jacobian matrix \(Df\) has rank two. The author shows how to compute \(\#\Sigma_2(Df)\) and also underlines that the presented approach ``does not exclude the case where points in \(\Sigma_2(Df)\) are not umbilic''. In conclusion, several interesting examples are analyzed with the help of Singular System [\textit{W. Decker} et al., ``Singular 4-0-2, a computer algebra system for polynomial computations'']. The author also mentions an unpublished work [\textit{R. Stingley}, Singularities of maps between 4-manifolds. (Dissertation) State University of New York (1995)], where some results and materials, closely related with the subject, are discussed in detail.
