The construction of the syntomic cohomology of J.-M. Fontaine and W. Messing for semistable varieties over \(p\)-adic rings was extended by \textit{J. Nekovář} and \textit{W. Nizioł} [Algebra Number Theory 10, No. 8, 1695--1790 (2016; Zbl 1375.14081)] to a cohomology theory for varieties over \(p\)-adic fields. A more flexible variant of the syntomic cohomology is the finite polynomial cohomology introduced by the first author [Isr. J. Math. 120, Part B, 291--334 (2000; Zbl 1001.19003)] for varieties over \(p\)-adic fields with good reduction. In this paper, the authors generalize this finite polynomial cohomology for arbitrary varieties over \(p\)-adic fields. In their construction, they replace the \(p\)-power Frobenius with a ``partially linearized'' Frobenius. The authors also give, using this cohomology theory, formulae describing the syntomic regulator map \(H_{mot}^i(X,j) \longrightarrow H_{syn}^i(X_h,j)\), where \(X\) is a product of copies of an affine curve.
