After an extensive review of the theory of approach spaces the authors define an approach structure on the set of all Borel probability measures on a metric space \(S\) and prove that the Wasserstein metric is the metrization of this approach structure. In the final section the measure of non-uniform integrability of a collection \(\Gamma\) of Borel measures is defined and it is shown that this value is always smaller than the measure of non-compactness of \(\Gamma\) for the approach structure that was defined earlier.
