For a higher-rank semi-simple Lie group \(G\), a minimal parabolic subgroup \(P<G\) and an irreducible \(G\)-space \(X\) equipped with a \(G\)-invariant probability measure, \textit{A. Nevo} and \textit{R. J. Zimmer} [Invent. Math. 138, No. 2, 229--252 (1999; Zbl 0936.22007); J. Anal. Math. 86, 93--104 (2002; Zbl 1015.22002)] classified the structure of possible intermediate \(G\)-systems that sit between \(X\times G/P\) and \(X\). This has many consequences, including the theorem of \textit{G. Stuck} and \textit{R. J. Zimmer} [Ann. Math. (2) 139, No. 3, 723--747 (1994; Zbl 0836.22018)], which shows that a faithful irreducible action of a higher-rank semi-simple Lie group preserving a probability measure is either transitive or free up to a null set. Here a new proof of the theorem of Nevo and Zimmer is given, which in particular allows both theorems to be extended to linear groups over local fields.
