The paper studies the existence of solutions of the problem \[ -\Delta u+V(\epsilon x)u=H(u-\beta )f(u)\text{ in }\mathbb R^N, \quad u>0\text{ in }R^N, \quad u\in W^{2,(p+1)/p}(\mathbb R^N) \cap H^1(R^N). \] Here \(H\) is the Heaviside fuction. It is assumed that: \(f\) is continuous and vanishes in \((-\infty ,0)\), \(f(s)/s\to 0\) as \(s\to 0\), \(f(s)/s^p\to 0\) as \(s\to \infty \) for some \(p\in (1,(N+2)/(N-2))\), and \(0<\int_0^s f(t)dt\leq f(s)s\) for all \(s>0\). Under some conditions on \(V\) the existence of a weak solution of the problem is proved, for \(\epsilon\in(0,\epsilon^*)\).
