This is a microscopic approach to the Fourier equation. Indeed, surprizingly, the transfer from microscopic to mesoscopic in the derivation of Fourier's equation is not yet quite clear and the present paper aims to be a contribution to this topic. To this end, one introduces a ball-piston model which belongs to the class of Gaspard and Gilbert models. One then obtains such data like main free times, collision frequencies and rates. The main free time determines the time scale of the stochastic process of energy exchange of the ball-piston pair.
