Let \(X\) be a smooth complex projective variety of dimension \(n \geq 2\) and let \(\mathcal L\) be an ample line bundle on \(X\). The Seshadri constant \(\varepsilon(\mathcal L,x)\) is an important invariant to measure the local positivity of \(\mathcal L\) at a point \(x \in X\). In the paper under review the authors study Seshadri constants for ample adjoint line bundles, showing that they behave very well in this setting. In fact, for \(\mathcal L = K_X+L\) with \(L\) nef, they prove the existence of a uniform positive lower bound depending only on \(n\) (which is not known to exist in the general case). This implies the existence of a lower bound for the global Seshadri constant of a Fano manifold, which improves a result of \textit{S. Lee} [Math.\ Z.\ 245, 645--656 (2003; Zbl 1060.14061)]. Next, focusing on surfaces (\(n=2\)), the authors determine the expression of the potential values that \(\varepsilon(K_X+L,x)\) can assume in the interval \((0,1)\); in particular, \(\varepsilon(K_X+L,x)\geq \frac{1}{2}\) for every \(x \in X\). Moreover, \(\varepsilon(K_X+L,x)\geq 1\) if \(L\) is very ample, and pairs \((X,L)\) for which equality holds at every point are described. Finally, partial extensions of the above results are obtained for multi-point Seshadri constants.
