Consider an equivelar triangulated torus (that is triangulated with regular edge graph) and let \(X\) be its Stanley-Reisner scheme. The deformation spaces \(Def_X^a \) is defined by binomial equations and using the techniques of Eisenbud and Sturmfels, the smoothing components are given as toric varieties which are described here in terms of cones and lattices. Some connections to moduli of abelian surfaces are considered but the problem is mainly in work. The case of the Möbius torus leads to a projective Calabi-Yau 3-fold with Euler number 6.
