The authors consider germs of CR hypersurfaces \((M,p)\) admitting a CR contraction, i.e. a germ of smooth CR map \(f:(M,p)\to (M,p)\) such that \(|\lambda|<1\) for all eigenvalues \(\lambda\in\mathbb{C}\) of \(df(p):T^{\mathbb{C}}_pM\to T^{\mathbb{C}}_pM\). They prove that \((M,p)\) is equivalent to the germ of the zero-set in \(\mathbb{C}^n\) of a weighted homogeneous real valued polynomial. The degrees of its monomial terms are completely determined by the extended resonances of the contraction. The paper relies on a previous paper by \textit{J. Palis} and the second author [Bol. Soc. Bras. Mat., Nova Sér. 20, No.~2, 25--48 (1990; Zbl 0726.58027)]. Together with the special preparation in \S{2}, this yields the framework for finding the needed normal forms. The final section \S{4} contains several applications, showing that strongly pseudoconvex hypersurfaces contracting at a point are locally CR-equivalent to the sphere and deriving consequences for bounded domains \(\Omega\) in \(\mathbb{C}\), e.g., that the existence of \(f\in \text{Aut}(\Omega)\cap\text{Diff}(\bar{\Omega})\) restricting to a CR-contraction at a point \(p\in\partial\Omega\) implies D'Angelo finite type.
