Let \(\Omega\) be a smoothly bounded multiply-connected domain in the complex plane, \(L_{a}^{2}(\Omega)\) be the corresponding Bergman space, and \(\tau\) be the Banach algebra of linear bounded operators on \(L_{a}^{2}(\Omega)\) generated by all Toeplitz operators \(T_{\varphi}\), \(\varphi\in L^{\infty}(\Omega)\). It is shown that an operator \(S\in\tau\) is compact if and only if its Berezin transform \(\widetilde{S}\) vanishes at the boundary of \(\Omega\). Denote by \(\mathcal{T}\) the \(C^{\ast}\)-subalgebra of \(\tau\) generated by all \(T_{\varphi}\), \(\varphi\in H^{\infty}(\Omega)\). It is proved that every operator \(S\in\mathcal{T}\) has a canonical decomposition \(S=T_{\widetilde{S}}+{\mathcal R}\) for some \({\mathcal R}\) in the commutator ideal \(C_{\mathcal{T}}\) of the algebra \(\mathcal{T}\), and \(S\in C_{\mathcal{T}}\) if and only if \(\widetilde{S}\) vanishes identically on the set \({\mathcal M}_{1}\) of trivial Gleason parts.
