The main study in the present paper are the left-invariant metrics on noncompact Lie groups. The main question addressed is the following: Given a solvable Lie group \(G\), how can one determine if it admits an Einstein or solvsoliton metric? The answer given by the author is that the existence of such a metric can be determined by analyzing algebraic invariants of the Lie algebra of \(G\) and infinitesimal deformations of any left-invariant metric on \(G\). In fact a detailed algorithm is given in order to determine such a metric. The other main result of the paper is related to isometry groups of solvsoliton metrics. It is shown that if \(S\) is a completely solvable unimodular Lie group admitting a solvsoliton metric, and \(g\) is any left-invariant metric, then there exists a left-invariant soliton metric \(g'\) such that \(\text{Isom}(S, g)\subset\text{Isom}(S, g')\) as groups.
