The authors' inspiration comes from the work [\textit{V. Eh. Katsnel'son}, \textit{A. Ya. Khejfets} and \textit{P. M. Yuditskij}, ``The abstract interpolational problem and the theory of extensions of isometric operators'' (Russian), Collect. Sci. Works, Kiev 1987, 83--96 (1987; Zbl 0703.41005)]. They study a general metric constrained interpolation problem for functions from a vector-valued de~Branges-Rovnyak space associated with a certain operator-valued Schur class function. They obtain a description of all solutions in terms of functions from an associated de Branges-Rovnyak space satisfying only a bound on the de~Branges-Rovnyak norm. Connections with results on kernels of Toeplitz operators and nearly invariant subspaces of backward shift operators are also discussed.
