An atomic decomposition of a Banach space \(X\) provides a reconstruction formula for each element of \(X\), as a series expansion in terms of atoms. On the other hand, Banach frames allow to reconstruct each element of the space \(X\) via the synthesis operator. In general, finding an explicit formula for the synthesis operator is not as simple. In order to obtain reconstruction formulas, the authors study under which condition they can define an atomic decomposition from a Banach frame. In this work, they prove that, if \(X\) does not contain a copy of \(c_0\), a Banach frame for \(X\) with respect to a solid sequence space defines an unconditional anatomic decomposition of \(X\). This provides a reconstruction formula with unconditional convergence. The result applies, for example, to reflexive Banach spaces and to Banach spaces with finite cotype. As a consequence, any unconditional Banach frame for \(L_p\) or for the Lorentz function space \(L_{p,q}\) with \(1< p, q<\infty\) has an unconditional reconstruction formula. Finally, having a reconstruction formula, the authors prove that an unconditional atomic decomposition of \(X\) is shrinking if and only if \(X\) does not contain a copy of \(\ell_1\) and that it is boundedly complete if and only if \(X\) does not contain a copy of \(c_0\).
