The paper addresses a general question on representation of a given object through another one which is more easily to operate with. For example, taking a picture provides one with a compact representation of a particular view. The main role plays the difference between the initial and the obtained objects. The authors of the paper introduce a new mathematical machinery for object representation, called ambiguous representation, and consider some of its properties. Towards the end of the paper, they provide a natural fuzzification of their procedures and restate some of their results in the fuzzy setting. To be more specific, the authors consider both representable and representing objects as closed subsets of compact Hausdorff spaces (compacta) equipped with Vietoris topology. An ambiguous representation is then a binary relation between closed subsets of two compacta which satisfies some additional requirements. The authors consider ambiguous representations as morphisms in three specific categories (providing two different methods of their composition) and describe possible algebraic-topological structures on their hom-sets (e.g., the structure of a compact Lawson upper semilattice). The paper is well written and, moreover, has a good philosophical overview of its results in its last section called ``Epilogue''. The paper is positioned as a beginning of a new theory, which will be developed further by the authors in their subsequent papers.
