Let \(X\) be an irreducible smooth complex projective curve. The authors study orthogonal (and symplectic) parabolic bundles i.e., parabolic vector bundles on \(X\) with a nondegenerate quadratic (resp. symplectic) form with values in a parabolic line bundle. An orthogonal (or symplectic) parabolic bundle is semistable (resp. polystable) if and only if the underlying parabolic bundle is so. The authors define the notion of algebraic connections on orthogonal and symplectic parabolic bundles and give a criterion for their existence. They prove that an orthogonal or symplectic parabolic bundle admits an Einstein-Hermitian connection if and only if it is polystable.
