The authors study the possible coexistence of periodic solutions and unbounded solutions for scalar second order differential equations of Liénard type. This type of results were first considered in the literature in two papers, both published in 1998: a paper by Alonso and Ortega, for the unboundedness part, and a paper by Fabry and Fonda, for the periodic problem. The authors generalize these results to more general types of equations. However, I think that they could have compared their results with those contained in the following two papers, which are not quoted in the references [\textit{C. Fabry} and \textit{A. Fonda}, Adv. Nonlinear Stud. 5, No.~3, 351--373 (2005; Zbl 1088.34027); \textit{A. Fonda} and \textit{J. Mawhin}, Adv. Differ. Equ. 11, No.~10, 1111--1133 (2006; Zbl 1155.34020)].
