The only practical way of calculating and studying the electromagnetic fields in real structure, is the application of numerical methods to the Maxwell's equations. The authors of this paper discuss a two-level conservative implicit scheme for short-range wake field calculation in three dimensions. Unlike the finite difference time domain method (FDTD) this scheme is based on a TE/TM (transversal electric/transversal magnetic) like splitting of the field components in time. The method does not have dispersion in the longitudinal direction and is second order convergent. Numerical test examples performed in the last section of the paper show that the new scheme is stable and much more accurate in long-time simulations than the conventional FDTD method.
