The optimal \(L_ 1\) problem for generalized polynomial monosplines and a related problem (Q582496)

In this paper the authors obtain new results for the optimal \(L_ 1\) problem for generalized monosplines, the fundamental theorem of algebra for monosplines, and the generalized Gaussian formulae by utilizing the relationships between these problems. For example, they extend the recent results of \textit{A. A. Zhensykbaev} [J. Approximation Theory 56, No.2, 121-133 (1989; Zbl 0674.41003)] on the fundamental theorem of algebra problem. They treat the optimal \(L_ 1\) problem from a variational approach. In a future paper the authors intend to extend this procedure to generalize results of \textit{K. Jetter} [Math. Z. 164, 53-66 (1978; Zbl 0378.41003)].
