Some fluids exist (confirmed by experiments and called generalized Newtonian fluids) with viscosity depending on the shear rate. This book presents some fundamental and recent results (contained in the habilitation thesis of the author) in this field and contains three parts (ten chapters) and three Appendix. In the first two parts are studied stationary and non-stationary models for generalized Newtonian fluids, while the last part contains some recent results in stochastic PDEs, with application to Stochastic Power-law fluids. Some important function spaces, the \(A\)-Stokes system and Ito's formula in infinite dimensions are briefly described in Appendix. The main tools used in the book are related with Sobolev, Lebesgue and Orlicz spaces, with Bogovskii operator and with some special Korn-type inequalities. The existence of weak solutions is obtained by using the new and important ``solenoidal Lipschitz truncation method''. The main point is to approximate (up to a ``small'' set) a Sobolev function with a Lipschitz one, ``by modifying it on the level set of the Hardy-Litlewood maximal function of its gradient'' (see p. 11). The effectiveness of this method is briefly described in Chapter 1, for the Power-law stationary flows, compared with the monotone operators and \(L^{\infty}\) truncation approaches. The method is used in the case of Prandtl-Eyring (stationary) and Power-law (non-stationary) fluids. Stochastic heat equation elements and some compactness results are given in the last part. A large number of proofs and details are given, very useful for those interested in this field.
