The Monge-Ampère equation \[ \det D^2u= f \] arises in differential geometry (problems involving hypersurfaces of prescribed Gauss curvature), in geometry (in Weyl embedding problem) and in mass transportation problem and has applications in fluid dynamics, meteorology and mathematical physics. In the first edition [Zbl 0989.35052], the author presents a self-contained exposition of the theory starting with some basic facts about convex functions and ending up with the regularity theory developed by Caffarelli. In this second edition, the author adds two new chapters: Chapter 7 concerning linearised Monge-Ampère equations and Chapter 8 about Hölder estimates for second order derivatives of solutions to Monge-Ampère equations. These new chapters reflect the new developments of the theory since the publication of the first edition. This very clear monograph will be useful in stimulating new researches on the Monge-Ampère equation, its connections with several research areas and its applications.
