Nonlinear dynamics of chaotic and stochastic systems. Tutorial and modern developments (Q5898140)

This is the second edition of the original version published in 2002 (see the review in Zbl 1110.37025). The topics of this book are many aspects of finite dimensional complex deterministic and stochastic dynamical systems from a physicists' perspective. Its value for mathematicians lies mainly in the fact that it presents an up-to-date account of currently relevant topics in physics. The chapters are 1. A tutorial on deterministic and stochastic dynamical systems 2. Dynamical Chaos (mainly for deterministic systems, with emphasis on synchronization problems; also control of chaos and reconstruction problems are treated). Here three new sections are added compared to the first edition (on statistical properties of dynamical chaos, and synchronization problems in oscillatory and in living systems). 3. Stochastic dynamics, including a discussion of stochastic resonance, synchronization, coherence resonance and noise induced transport. The presentation includes many examples and references mainly to the physics literature.
