It should have been observed in \textit{L. Mattner}, ibid. 4, No. 1, 99-105 (1995; Zbl 0833.62009), that a special case of its Theorem 1, namely the case where \(N \supset \{1,3,5, \dots\}\), is a special case of Theorem 2 of \textit{M. Pollak} [Ann. Stat. 1, 180-182 (1973; Zbl 0263.62008)], a reference we recently learned from \textit{M. C. Spruill} [Sankhyā, Ser. A 57, No. 1, 118-125 (1995; Zbl 0872.62016)]. We would like to use this opportunity to mention that \textit{L. Mattner} [Remarkable asymmetric random walks. Submitted for publication to Proc. Am. Math. Soc. (1997)] contains a negative answer to the question on page 101 of Mattner's paper cited above.
