The paper uses the graphical techniques which have been introduced by \textit{J. B. Stephen} [J. Pure Appl. Algebra 63, No. 1, 81-112 (1990; Zbl 0691.20044)]\ and then have been adjusted for the study of free products of inverse semigroups by \textit{P. R. Jones, S. W. Margolis, J. Meakin, J. B. Stephen} [Glasg. Math. J. 33, No. 3, 373-387 (1991; Zbl 0742.20057)]\ to construct normal forms for the elements of an amalgamated free product of inverse semigroups. The method applies to a large class of amalgams \([S_1,S_2;U]\) which the author calls ``lower bounded''. Included in this class are: (i) full amalgams: \(U\) contains all idempotents of \(S_1\) as well as \(S_2\); (ii) \(U\) is an ideal in \(S_1\) as well as in \(S_2\); (iii) \(U\) is a semilattice satisfying the descending chain condition, (iv) the \(S_i\) are finite and \(E\)-unitary, and others.
