Endomorphism rings of Abelian groups (Q5916459)

Let k be a non-countable regular non-weakly compact cardinal. Assuming the axiom of constructibility V\(=L\) the author gives a construction of a family \(\{A_ i|\) \(i<2^ k\}\) of \(2^ k\) abelian torsion-free groups such that (i) any \(A_ i\) is of cardinality k and is k-separable (i.e. any subgroup of cardinality \(<k\) of \(A_ i\) is contained in a completely decomposable direct summand of \(A_ i)\), (ii) the image of any homomorphism \(A_ i\to A_ j\) for \(i\neq j\) has cardinality \(<k\), (iii) for each i the endomorphism ring \(E(A_ i)\) of \(A_ i\) is a split ring extension of Z by the ideal \(E_ k(A_ i)\) of all endomorphisms with images of cardinality \(<k\). In particular, the groups \(A_ i\) are not direct sums of two subgroups of cardinality k.
