Units of group rings (Q5917824)

The paper splits into two parts of which the first one recapitulates the construction of the group \(B_G\) of units in the integral group ring \(\mathbb{Z} G\) of a finite group \(G\): \(B_G\) is generated by the Bass-Milnor and the bicyclic units and has finite index in \(\mathbb{Z} G^\times\) for a large class of groups \(G\). This part does not contain really new information in comparison with e.g. chapter 3 of \textit{S. K. Sehgal}'s book [Units in integral group rings (Longman, 1993; Zbl 0803.16022)]. The second part is concerned with indecomposable groups \(G\) satisfying \(G/Z(G)\simeq\mathbb{Z}/p\oplus\mathbb{Z}/p\), \(p\) an odd prime. The rational group algebra \(\mathbb{Q} G\) as well as a certain subgroup of finite index in \(\mathbb{Z} G^\times\) are explicitly described; again \([\mathbb{Z} G^\times:B_G]<\infty\). Finally, a complete list of such \(G\) with cyclic center \(Z(G)\) is given and, in this case, \((\mathbb{Z} G)^\times\) fully determined.
