The authors consider the Smoluchowski coagulation equation with the well known multiplicative kernel \(K(x,y)=(A+Bx)(A+By)\). They prove time estimates for the existence of mass conserving solutions and determine the mass behavior after the gel point. The results are obtained by treating the real Laplace transforms of the original equation. Actually, the paper summarizes known results by other authors (e.g., J. B. McLeod, F. Leyvraz, H. R. Tschudi, M. H. Ernst, R. Ziff, E. M. Hendrics, V. A. Galkin), which were obtained between 1962-1985. The authors' approach is interesting, the reasonings are careful, apparent and properly justified.
