Given a separable connected locally connected locally compact metric space, \(X\) the author identifies the topology of the pairs \((2^X,\text{ANR}(X))\) and \((C(X),L_c(X))\), where \(2^X\) is the hyperspace of non-empty compact subsets of \(X\), endowed with the Vietoris topology, and \(C(X)\), \(L_c(X)\), \(\text{ANR}(X)\), \(\text{ANR}_c(X)\) are subspaces of \(2^X\) consisting of continua, locally connected continua, ANR's, and connected ANR's, respectively. Let \(Q=[-1,1]^\omega\) be the Hilbert cube, \(Q_0=\{(t_i)\in Q:\lim t_i=0\}\), and \(\Omega_3\) be the standard \(G_{\delta\sigma\delta}\)-absorber in \(Q\). It is shown that the pair \((C(X),L_c(X))\) is homeomorphic to \((Q,Q_0)\) (resp. \((Q,Q_0)\smallsetminus 1pt\)) if \(X\) is (non)compact and has DD\(^1\)P. The latter means that any two maps \(f,g:[0,1]\to X\) can be uniformly approximated by maps with disjoint images. The pair \((2^X,\text{ANR}(X))\) is homeomorphic to \((Q,\Omega_3)\) (resp. \((Q,\Omega_3)\smallsetminus 1pt\)) if \(X\) is (non)compact, each nonempty open subset of \(X\) contains a 3-disk. The same is true for the pair \((C(X),\text{ANR}_c(X))\) if, in addition, \(X\) has DD\(^1\)P.
