The authors propose an invariant definition of hyperbolic tori of Hamiltonian systems. As compared to known definitions, this definition does not require the existence of normal form of Hamiltonian function in a neighborhood of the torus. Based on this definition, the authors develop a general theory of hyperbolic tori in the spirit of KAM theory.
