The authors of this interesting paper investigate a nonlinear mathematical model of string vibrations under initial data, \(u_{tt}-\triangle u - M(\int_{\Omega }|\nabla u(x,\cdot)|^2dx)\triangle u=f\), where \(\triangle \) is the Laplace operator, \(\nabla \) is the gradient, \(M\) is a real function defined on \([0,+\infty)\), and \(\Omega \) is an open domain in \(\mathbb R\) and can be either bounded or unbounded. Existence of solutions of the considered equation is studied by diagonalization operator \(\mathcal U\) to the considered problem to obtain \(v^{\prime\prime }+\lambda v+M(\cdot ,|v(\cdot)|_{1/2}^2)\lambda v+\varphi =\tilde f\), \(\varphi'+\lambda \varphi +v'=\tilde g\), where \(\lambda \) is a positive real parameter. The solution of the Cauchy problem associated with this system is obtained as the limit \(\{v,\varphi \}\) of a sequence \(\{v_k,\varphi_k \}_{k\in\mathbb N}\), using an appropriate topology. Here \(\{v_k,\varphi_k \}\) for each \(k\) is a solution of a ``Truncated problem''. The solution of the considered problem is obtained. In the noncoercive case, the solution is approximated by a family of coercive problems and then the limit is taken.
