Let \(A\) be a finite dimensional algebra over a finite field \(k\), \(\text{Mod }A\) the category of all finite (right) \(A\)-modules. For \(N_1,N_2,M\in\text{Mod }A\), \(G_{N_1N_2}^M\) will denote the number of submodules \(U\) of \(M\) such that \(U\simeq N_2\) and \(M/U\simeq N_1\). Hall polynomials exist for \(A\) if \(\forall N_1,N_2,M\in\text{Mod }A\) there exists a polynomial \(g_{N_1N_2}^M\in\mathbb{Z}[x]\) and an infinite subset \(\Omega_{N_1N_2}^M\) of \(\Omega_{M\oplus N_1\oplus N_2}\) such that for any \(E\in\Omega_{N_1N_2}^M\), we have that \(g_{N_1N_2}^M(\text{card }E)=G_{N_1^E N_2^E}^{M^E}\) where \(\Omega_M\) is the set of all \(M\)-conservative field extensions of \(k\). Such a polynomial \(g_{N_1N_2}^M\) is called a Hall polynomial of \(A\). \textit{C. M. Ringel} [in Lond. Math. Soc. Lect. Note Ser. 168, 284-291 (1992; Zbl 0764.17005)] conjectured the existence of Hall polynomials for finite representation type algebras. This conjecture has proven to hold true for representation directed algebras [in \textit{C. M. Ringel}, Topics in algebra, Banach Cent. Publ. 26, Part I, 433-447 (1990; Zbl 0778.16004)]; representation-finite trivial extension algebras [in \textit{L.-G. Peng}, J. Algebra 197, No. 1, 1-13 (1997; Zbl 0891.16010)]; cyclic serial algebras [in \textit{J. Y. Guo}, Commun. Algebra 23, No. 2, 743-751 (1995; Zbl 0816.17009)] and representation finite hereditary algebras [in \textit{C. M. Ringel}, Adv. Math. 84, No. 2, 137-178 (1990; Zbl 0799.16013)]. In this paper the author generalizes the result obtained by Ringel for representation-finite hereditary algebras to finite dimensional tame algebras. This result is obtained considering first the following cases: -- The Hall polynomial \(g_{N_1N_2}^M\) exists for any \(A\)-module \(M\) if at most one of the \(N_i\) is not simple. -- Let \(M\), \(N\), \(L\) be \(A\)-modules with \(N\) preprojective or preinjective. Then the Hall polynomials \(g_{NL}^M\) and \(g_{LN}^M\) exist. -- Let \(N\), \(L\) be regular \(A\)-modules and let \(M\) be any \(A\)-module. Then the Hall polynomial \(g_{NL}^M\) exists. From these the existence of Hall polynomials for any finite dimensional tame algebra over a finite field \(k\) is obtained.
