Let \(d\mu (x)\) be a measure on \(\mathbb{R} \). In a previous paper with the same title [J. Approximation Theory 103, No. 2, 281-291 (2000; Zbl 0947.41021)] the author proved that for each \(n \in \mathbb N\) there exists a unique monic \(L_m\) extremal polynomial \(P_n(d\mu ,m;x)=x^n+ \dots \) for which NEWLINE\[NEWLINE \int_{\mathbb R} P_n (d\mu ,m;x)^m d\mu (x) = \min _{P=x^n+\dots} \int_{\mathbb R} P (x)^m d\mu (x). NEWLINE\]NEWLINE In this paper the author continues his study of the Christoffel type functions which are extensions of the Christoffel functions of the case \(m=2\), that is of the special case of classical orthogonal polynomials. The asymptotic estimates of these functions for \(L_m\) extremal polynomials with an even integer \(m\) with respect to the Jacobi weight are established. Also the asymptotic behavior of the zeros of the polynomials and the Cotes numbers of the corresponding Tuŕan quadrature formulas are considered.
