Effective properties of the octet-truss lattice material (Q5944524)

This paper reports on an investigation of effective mechanical properties of octet-truss lattice structured material which has been performed both experimentally and theoretically. This includes analytical and finite element calculations of elastic properties, and the prediction of plastic yielding collapse surfaces. Good agreement is found between the predictions of strength and experimental observations from tests on the octet-truss material made from a casting aluminium alloy. Moreover, the strength and stiffness properties compare favourably with the corresponding properties of metallic foams.
