The comparison of two models describing heat conduction with memory are considered in this paper. The first model is derived in the framework of Coleman-Gurtin and Gurtin-Pipkin. The second model entails an equation of hyperbolic type, where the dissipation is carried out solely by the memory term and can be viewed as the limit of the first model as the coefficient \(\omega\) of the Laplacian of the temperature tends to zero. The main purpose of this article is to perform a global asymptotic analysis of the first model, by using the existence of a uniform attractor of the second model, uniformly in \(\omega\). It is worth noting the substantial presence of the parameter \(\omega\): when \(\omega\neq 0\), we obtain a parabolic equation instead of the hyperbolic case \(\omega=0\). After the introduction in the first paragraphs of the paper, the second model is presented in a proper functional setting, under some assumptions on the memory kernel \(\mu\) and the nonlinearity \(g\), in the third section. Next, a uniform in time energy estimate is obtained in order to arrive the existence of a uniform attractor. This work focuses to results independent of \(\omega\), as the interest is concentrated to the case \(\omega=0\) and to the continuity properties obtained as \(\omega\) tends to zero. The work concludes with the examination of the behaviour of long time solutions to the second problem in the hyperbolic limit \(\omega\rightarrow 0\). In this case, the dynamics of the parabolic problem tend to coincide with the dynamics of the hyperbolic one.
