The main problem solved in the paper is under which conditions a closure operator on the power set of a given universe may be represented by an upper approximation operator within the rough set framework, and by a modal diamond operator. Similar questions are considered in the cases of a lower approximation operator and a modal box operator, rough fuzzy sets, fuzzy rough sets, and fuzzy diamond and box operators.
