Let \(f\) be a discrete and open mapping from a domain \(G\) of \(\mathbb{R}^n\) into \(\mathbb{R}^n\). Then \(H(x,f)= \limsup_{r\to 0^+} {L(x,f,r)\over l(x,f,r)}\) is called the linear dilatation of \(f\) at \(x\in G\), where \[ L(x,f,r)= \sup_{|y-x|=r} \bigl|f(y)-f(x) \bigr|,l(x,f,r) =\inf_{|y-x|=r} \bigl|f(y)-f(x)\bigr | \] and \(0<r<d (x,\partial G)\). The main result of the paper is the following theorem: Let \(f:G\to\mathbb{R}^n\) be a nonconstant \(K\)-quasiregular mapping. Then for each \(x\in G\) \[ H(x,f)= \begin{cases} \exp\biggl\{ (i_x K-1) \bigl( 3\log 2+3 \sqrt{i_xK}-\log (i_xK_1)\bigr) \biggr\},\;1\leq K\leq i_x, \\ \exp\biggl\{ (K^2-1)\bigl(4\sqrt 2-\log(K-i_x)\bigr)+(i_x-1)\varphi_1 (i_x) \biggr\}, \;i_x\leq K\leq 2i_x,\\ \exp\biggl \{4(K^2-1)\sqrt {K/i_x}+(i_x-1) \varphi_2(K) \biggr\}, K>2i_x,\end{cases} \] where \(\varphi_1(i_x)=\sqrt 2i_x(10 \sqrt{2i_x}-1)\) and \(\varphi_2(K)=2 \sqrt 2(\sqrt 2K^2+K-3)\). The theorem improves a result given by S. Rickman and generalized a result given by P. Seittenranta.
