The problem of existence and uniqueness of continuous solutions of the following iterative functional equation NEWLINE\[NEWLINEG\bigl[ f^{n_0} (x), \dots,f^{n_k}(x) \bigr]= F(x),\;x\in[a,b],\tag{1}NEWLINE\]NEWLINE where \(G\) and \(F\) are known functions and \(f\) denotes the \(n\)th iteration of \(f\), is investigated. NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEUnder some rather strong assumptions the authors prove the existence of continuous solutions \(f\) of equation (1) by using Schauder's fixed point theorem for continuous operators on compact convex subsets of the space \(C(I,R)\).NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEThe sufficient condition for the uniqueness of the continuous solutions of equation (1) is proved on the base of Edelstein's fixed point theorem.NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINESome examples illustrating the obtained results are presented.
