The author considers the boundary value problem \[ u''(x)-q(x)u(x)=-f(x),\quad 0 <x<\infty,\quad u(0) = 0,\quad \int^\infty_0 u^2(x)dx <\infty. \] He suggests to find an approximate solution to the above boundary value problem on the half-line in an analytic form with arbitrary prescribed accuracy with the use of a two-sided functional-discrete method. This paper is a continuation of the earlier paper by \textit{V. L. Makarov} and the author [Differ. Equ. 33, No.~7, 959-966, (1997 ; Zbl 0928.65088)], where the two-sided functional-discrete method for solving boundary value problems for ordinary differential equations of second order on the finite interval \([0,1]\) was justified.
