Let \(F_0=0\), \(F_1=1\), and \(F_{n+1}= F_n + F_{n-1}\) \((n\geq 1)\) denote the Fibonacci numbers and \(\tau = (\sqrt 5-1)/2\) the golden ratio. The main result of this paper says that \([(j+F_i)\tau] - [j\tau] - F_{i-1} = (-1)^{i+1}\) if \(j = kF_{i+1} + [k\tau] F_i\) for some \(k\geq 1\) and \(i\geq 1\), and \([(j+F_i)\tau] - [j\tau] - F_{i-1} = 0\) otherwise. The proofs are elementary and make use of the Zeckendorf represenation of positive integers.
