This volume gives the state-of-the-art of new contributions to the understanding of structure and dynamics of vortices. The book contains 22 articles corresponding to seminars and presentations during the workshop. The first three articles describe respectively, general two-dimensional aspects of vortices, a review of numerical methods applied to vortical flow, and theories of vortex instability. The following 19 papers reflect experimental, numerical or theoretical aspects of vortices. Many of these studies concern also related fields, such as turbulence, aerodynamics, wakes, geophysics, mixing, particles dynamics etc. The book demonstrates important recent advances in the dynamics of vortices, and will be an invaluable reference for all those with an active interest in this area of fluid mechanics.
